Blackwater
Blackwater — river.
The forest river beside which Holmford grew up. Its water runs dark, tannin-stained — it takes the colour from the peat bogs round about. The Blackwater flows from north to south, toward the greater waters, and its ford is the heart of the village and the reason it exists: this is where you cross to the far bank. Along the channel, upriver, an old path leads toward the marshes and on toward the Spread.
