Hala — of the Combes.
Tedo's wife, mistress of the house in the middle of the Combes. She watches a long while before she says anything, and knows more than she says. She cooks well and without frills — her kitchen, her bread and duck broth, carries warmth and plain kindness. She says a few words, to the point. It's she who calls Kena by the Holmford pet-name "Tana."
